An Introduction to Rock Paper Scissors

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Rock Paper Scissors is a childhood game that’s been turned into a live online gambling game. Who’d have thought of that?

Well, the very enterprising people at BetGames.TV, that’s who!

Rock Paper Scissors has long been a game used for sorting out disputes, very much like tossing a coin when you need to make a decision.

But in Betgames Rock Paper Scissors you’re putting your money on the line, and betting on whether your choice out of Rock, Paper, or Scissors is going to beat the dealer’s choice.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”28074″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

How is Rock Paper Scissors Played online?

The very clever people at BetGames.TV has recreated the game for play online, by using a specially adapted pack of cards that a dealer uses to randomly pick the house’s choice.

The deck contains 24 cards:

  • 8 cards denote the symbol Rock
  • 8 of the card contain Paper symbols
  • the last eight cards contain symbols of Scissors

The dealer’s choice of symbol for the game round is chosen by dealing the top card from the deck.

The player symbol is chosen during the betting time window, where a bet is placed on the symbol the player wants to play.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]

Rock, Paper, Scissors – Symbol Rankings – What Beats What?

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]The outcomes of the game, follow the same rankings as the manual version of the game.

  1. If both symbols are the same, the game is a Tie.
  2. Paper will beat the Rock – As paper can wrap the rock.
  3. Scissors will beat Paper because Paper can be cut by scissors.
  4. Rock beats scissors because it can blunt the scissors.

Playing Betgames Rock Paper Scissors

On your first visit to the game, you’re probably going to be a bit confused, because you’re presented with a traditional looking card game table and a dealer.

It’s not immediately obvious how the game is played or whether you are playing against other players or the house.

At first glance, two hands are displayed so you naturally think the one hand is played against the other. In fact, you’d be wrong.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”4/6″][vc_single_image image=”28070″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]You can play and bet on both of the games or just one.

The table is divided into two sides, one Silver, the other Gold.  You can bet on one, either, or both sides. The bet amounts can be the same or different, the choice is yours.

Each game gets its own card dealt.

The Table Layout

Apart from the playing sides, there is a number of features on the table/playing interface that help during the game.

The lasts 5 results are displayed above each of the betting positions, so if you like to bet using trends you get some assistance in knowing what’s happened in the past.

The card scanner is located in the middle of the table.

The dealer deals the card from their hand rather than from a dealing shoe – which is very unusual. It looks a bit jerky and not as fluid as cards being dealt in the more traditional way of using a dealing shoe.

Behind and to the side of the dealer is displayed two close-up camera views of the cards that have been dealt. Handy if you struggle to see the cards when they are dealt on the table (like me!).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Betting on Rock Paper Scissors

Bets can be placed during the betting time window which lasts for approximately 20 seconds.

You can bet on the Silver Side and/or the Gold side.

But only one bet can be placed on each.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”28069″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”28068″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Payouts For Rock Paper Scissors

There is no payout table displayed on the screen. payouts are displayed dynamically by the bet amount you make. If you want to see the payout before you bet, just highlight the coin you value you’re going to use. You’ll have to do some mental math if your planning on placing multiple coins, otherwise use the formula for one coin as your guide. To be honest this is a bit of a faff!

The payouts are not the same for each hand you play.

For the Silver hand the payouts are:

  • 1.85:1 – so if you bet £10. You get back £18.50.
  • For a Tie, you get your £10 stake returned.

For the Gold Side, the payouts are more generous for the main bet, but not so much for tied hands:

  • The main hand pays 2.5:1, so a £10 stake will return £25.
  • Ties on the other hand pay 0.35:1, so you get back £3.50 for your £10 stake!

While the Gold hand pays out more, you have to balance that against the low returns for the Tie hands. They happen more often than you think, so be careful.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Playing Strategy for Betgames Rock Paper Scissors

This is one of the most difficult questions to answer. people have been trying strategies for playing Rock Paper Scissors for as long as the game has been around. What you have to realise is there are only three possible playing choices – Rock, Paper, Scissors.

The second factor, which is new, is the dealer’s choice is picked from a pack of cards that has been freshly shuffled for the game round. It’s a virgin deck.

The most interesting fact is there are two games being played, with higher payout odds being awarded to the Gold side of the table.

This is because there is one less card in the deck, therefore the result is already skewed in favour of the icons that have more cards in the deck.

Is it better to play the Silver or Gold Side?

If you’re after the best payouts, the Gold zone is the best side to play.

This is because there is one less card for one of the options in the deck (it’s been dealt for the Silver game), making the chances slightly harder. This is reflected in the payouts offered.

Watch out for the Tie result in the Gold Zone – ties pay 0.35:1 of your bet![/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Summary of Betgames Rock Paper Scissors

To be honest, I didn’t know quite what to think when I first saw Rock Paper Scissors, and I’m still not sure whether I’m comfortable that the theme of the game is based on a childhood game – I just wonder how some of the regulators will view this? But that is for someone else to decide and debate.

It’s a simple game in concept – we all know how to play it, but I didn’t find it that easy to understand when faced with a table and some playing cards.

The game is presented well, the studio design is slick and the way the game table is displayed is a great improvement on the previous game, Speedy 7.

Visually the game presents as a two-player card game, so when you start playing it’s confusing when you find out it’s not. I had a bit of difficulty understanding the visual queues I was being given along with the commentary by the dealer. Honestly, it must be my age, but it took me a good 5 minutes of play to work out what was going on, and that was after I had read the how to play guide!

I couldn’t find a defined paytable, which left me trying to work out the payouts before I placed a bet.  The information is displayed dynamically when you select a bet amount, which is different from how pay tables and bets are normally displayed, so this caused me some unnecessary confusion as I tried to work out what was going on.

Once I got over that, I found that I got bored very quickly – there was no entertainment value in playing, so I would struggle to stay at the table for longer than a few minutes.

However, I’m pleased Betgames has developed this game because as a player I like to be challenged with new games and ways to bet,  but the overall experience of playing wasn’t great for me.

Sadly it’s not a game that I will be coming back to play, however, I’d encourage you to try it to see what you think.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
